rawn maak

People in the Big Mango like to complain about the weather- so here's my proof of cultural assimilation:

Every morning i leave our cool, air conditioned bed room, walk into the lounge and bang: i'm hit by a wall of moist, tropical heat. Its the same every morning but never fails to take me by suprise.

No wonder Bangkok is offically classed as the world's hottest large city.

Here's a stat. from the men in white coats that i read in the Bangkok Post on Thursday:

"It will be 40 years before Bangkok experiences a 'cool' day" (That is 'cool' as defined by the koppen classification system i.e. under 20 degrees).

That means i'll be nearly 70 before i walk out of my room and don't get suprised by how hot it is!

The crazy thing is on Friday (pushing 30 degrees) one of my students politely excused themselves from class and came back 5 minutes later with a coat on someone else asked if i could make the room any warmer.

Crazy.

(rawn maak means "very hot")
