Thailand turned yellow

Last week Thailand turned yellow to celebrate the kings birthday and mark 60 years of his reign.

The King was born on a Monday which means that Yellow is his colour, so everyone was wearing yellow T-shirts. I bought a new one especially for the occassion!

James and I (dressed in yellow) went to a park where there was an eclectic collection of entertainment; children singing and dancing, fete stalls and lots of food. At 7.29 all across the nation the national anthem was played and yellow candels were lit in the King's honour. We felt quite honoured to have yellow candles thrust upon us and held them high.

It has been quite amazing to see the respect that Thai people have for their king. People don't just respect the king because he is of noble birth but becasue he has given so much to the Thai people - he actively cares for his Kingdom. He has been personally involved in a number of social, financial and scientific breakthroughs in the country and is loved by rich and poor alike.

The next day at lunch one of the students at BBCS told us he actually saw the King- he was over the moon.
