White squirrels and giant millipedes

On sunday we drove about an hour north to go to a rural Thai Church. Our journey took us past some trees that are home to 100's of huge fruit bats, their wing span was over 100cm and they didn't seem very nocturnal!

At the church service we sang 'Hark the Herald Angel Sing' in Thai, quite bizzare! I think they were trying to sing some Western songs to make us happy. Western songs translated into Thai sound so bad! Songs written by Thai people, on the other hand, sound hauntingly beautiful and are nearly always sung in DMinor- the saddest of all keys.

On our way home we stopped at the Central Thailand Botanical Gardens for a stroll and a drink. We set off on a trail and found ourselves treking through jungle for two hours - when you've gone too far you just can't turn back! We almost trod on a giant toad and some huge millipides. There was lots of movement in the trees as white squirrels jumped from tree to tree.

We went to the local supermarket for dinner to get a bit of Western normality after our adventerous day! But slowly what we think of as normal is changing.
